Hoist Hydration Water Review

I you are working out it’s incredibly important that you stay proper dehydrated. This is especially important in hotter weather. There have been people who have died because they did not pay attention and listen to their body while working out in hot and humid weather. Water is a great hydration tool but it’s not enough. You nee to also replenish electrolytes. To do this it is popular to drink Gatorade and other enhanced sport drinks.

What is Hoist?

Hoist is a new hydration drink that claims that other hydration drink are not good enough and could cause cramps because their nutritionist is not being delivered fast enough.  They say that their formula is designed to flow right through your stomach and have no delay getting into your system.

How does Hoist work?

They say that the science behind their product is due to Osmolality which is a measure of how dense a solvent is. They say that the more carbohydrates, electrolytes, amino acids, protein, flavoring, etc a drink has than the high it’s osmolatiry is. Hoist says that the ideal hydration drink should try to match the osmolality level with the osmolality of the stomach. They claim that the osmolality level of the stomach is 250-300 mosm/kg and that when your drink is higher than this your body diverts energy to the digestive system and away from your muscles. They say that this will limit your ability to absorb water. While Hoist does outline this and the science of their drink on their website, they have no research that supports any of these claims available to readers. Hoist claims to have created a hydration product that is perfect in it’s osmolality levels by adding the right carbohydrates and electrolyte blend. Carbohydrates that are in this drink include combination of Crystalline Fructose and Dextrose (Glucose). The electrolyte blend is made up of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Magnesium and Calcium

You can currently buy Hoist from the brand official website but if you are looking for a real hydration drink that is actually backed by science I would look else where. If you are looking to save money on shipping, I would recommend buying this from Amazon.com.

Hoist Taste and Reviews

I have found mixed reviews on this product. Some people like the taste and others did not. I was not a fan of how it tasted but that’s just my opinion, you might love the taste. This hydration drink only got 3.4 out of 5 rating on Amazon which is not very impressive. One Amazon customer said that they thought there was too much sugar and calories and the taste was not impressive. Another customer wrote:"This is terrible. Absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever drank. Had about a dozen people also try it and give me feedback. It was unanimous. This product doesn't even deserve 1 star but there's no option for 0 stars”. Another review I thought was noteworthy was from this customer: "I have chronic dehydration caused by Hyper-POTS and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. I often have to receive home IV hydration infusions, sometimes weekly. So when I heard about this drink I ran straight to the store to try it. The starfruit tastes like something rotten, but if you like starfruit you may enjoy it. Strawberry Lemonade is kind of acidic. From the throat all the way to the stomach and back I felt a burn. I still powered through for a week to see if I saw any significant change. Nothing. I went back to Gatorade but eventually left it because the dyes were giving me killer migraines. I switched to SmartWater and Vitamin Zero Water because they also have electrolytes without the calories and sugar. I'm not an advocate for any particular drink, so by all means test for yourself!” - Sarah I noticed a trend in the reviews, many of them were not athletes that were recommending this product. Instead they where just people that recommend this as a hangover cure. Another customer wrote: “Great product. The lemon flavor is the best for dehydration and if you're trying to drink more water with just a bit of added flavor to drink with meals this is a great substitute! Had a hangover and drunk this and 20 mins later felt so much better...highly recommend” - Taneasha

Final Verdict

This drink does have electrolytes and carbohydrates so I’m sure that it is at least a half-way decent hydration drink. However, they seem to make claims that are just not backed my any scientific research or proof. We also don’t know what kind of qualifications they have to make a hydration drink in the first place. I wasn’t impressed with this drink and if you are looking for a good hydration drink that has actually been formulated by doctors and athletes you can buy SOS Organic Hydration packets straight from Amazon, I think they are a much better product and more value for your money.
