1. Love Yourself to Have Confidence

Confidence is a trait that many people struggle with (myself included). The key to having more confidence is first accepting and loving yourself for who you are. Be honest with yourself, recognize and own your flaws. Everyone has their own shortcomings or weaknesses, and it’s ok to acknowledge it, but it should not be something to dwell on.On the other hand, think about what characteristics make you great. Acknowledge these characteristics and be proud of them! The best way that I have found to really think deeply and reflect on yourself is through meditation. Meditation is a great way to improve your self-confidence. (1)I recommend meditating regularly and before you say you “can’t focus,” I couldn’t either! As someone with ADHD, I know how hard it can be to keep your thoughts from wandering but you CAN do it!The secret is practice and a good guide. Start with guided meditation through a meditation app. I use “Insight Timer,” a free meditation app with a social aspect that is available for download on both iPhone and Android. There are YouTube videos that are also a great option. If meditation does not work for you, find some other form of self-care that will boost your confidence, but you need to believe in yourself and believe that you have value.

2. Improve Your Posture

There is a massive difference in the “attractiveness” of a person stuccoing compared to someone with proper posture! With the time we spend slouched over our computers, tablets, and smartphones it’s not surprising that more and more people are falling victim to the neck, shoulder, and back pain. There are several ways to improve your posture, and while my personal favorite is through chest-opening yoga exercises, yoga is not everyone’s first choice so here are a couple other ways you can straighten up.Practice standing up straight with your back against the wall. Your heels, butt, shoulders and the end of your head should all touch the wall. Breath deeply a few times and as you walk forward away from the wall, keep your posture in line. At first, it will feel strange but continue walking with your shoulders squared, chin up with your eyes looking forward, not down. Good posture makes a big difference in attractiveness! (2)

3. Be Kind and Smile

What qualities do you value and look for in a friend or partner? Honest, loyal, kind to others, good listener, patient, friendly, loving, etc. Make a list and ask yourself if you possess these same characteristics. For example, I would like my friends or spouse to listen and be supportive. Just being a good listener makes the person talking feel more relaxed and comfortable to be around.Smiling will make you appear friendly and approachable. People like to be around happy and loving personalities. Smiling is addictive and like a magnet - positive feelings attract positive people. Practice smiling in a mirror, you want to laugh with your lips AND your eyes. This will make your smile look more genuine. The right amount of eye contact will make you appear friendlier and approachable. Practice making eye contact instead of looking at the ground. When you make eye contact with someone, hold it for a second or two with a genuine smile. (3)

4. Have Proper Hygiene

Good hygiene is essential to your health and will significantly improve your appearance (and smell). Good hygiene is elementary and here is a checklist:ShowerUse deodorantBrush and floss daily and get regular dental checkupsFace and moisturize your faceTrim your nailsKeep your hair clean, brushed, and trimmedThese are the basics whether you are a girl or guy, make sure you have these covered and always maintain a regular hygiene schedule.

5. Develop Healthy Habits

There are a handful of healthy habits that everyone, and I really do mean everyone, should follow. These little, day to day lifestyle habits will improve your appearance and health.

‍Stay Hydrated: Drink lots of water. Staying hydrated is right for your skin. It can make your skin look healthier, firmer, and younger. When your skin is not getting enough water, it can become dry and flak. Even oily skin types and become dehydrated.

Get Enough Sleep: Not getting enough sleep is bad for your health but it can also affect your physical appearance. It can cause pH levels of your skin to become unbalanced leading to dryness, redness, breakouts, and dark circles under your eyes.

Stay Active: Make your daily goal to find ways to more move! While 30 minutes of physical activity is recommended, there are plenty of other ways to add movement to your day. It can be as simple as choosing the stairs instead of the elevator or parking your car at the end f the parking lot further away from the building. One study found that even just climbing two flights of stairs per day can lead up to 6 lbs of weight loss in one year! These little choices will make a big difference!Featured Photo by Fezbot2000
