Tea is one of natures most powerful gifts. Different herbal teas have a wide array of health benefits to help you live a healthier life. "Teatox" is a new term I've been floating around and it's essentially a tea based detox that should help drinkers lose weight. Before you fall for these claims take a good look at the ingredients to make sure that they actually contain teas that are known to have weight loss characteristics and not just laxatives. But first you'll need to know which types of tea can help with weight loss and fat burning. Here are the teas that you should look out for if you are thinking about starting a "teatox".

Green Tea for Weight Loss

Green tea is one of the world's most popular drinks and it's effects on weight loss are well known. Green tea has been shown to boost the body's metabolism and burn fat.  There are many characteristics of Green Tea than contribute to it's weight loss properties and one of these is Caffeine.  One cup of green tea has about 24-40mg of caffeine. This is much less than a cup of coffee which has between 100-200mg of caffeine. Caffeine give you a boost in energy and studies have shown it can help improve athletic performance and help the body burn fat. The Journal of the American College of Nutrition published a study detailing how Green Tea helps in the control of body weight.

Green tea contains EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) which can boost the body's metabolism.  Both EGCG and Caffeine are naturally found in Green Tea and have a thermogenic effect on the body. This means that it increases the body's core temperature and to maintain a higher temperature it needs more energy and calories. This has been researched and published by the International Journal of Obesity.  Green tea also helps with weight loss when combined with working out. A study revealed that men how took green tea extract supplements burned 17% more fat burning exercise.

Bottom Line: Green tea boosts the metabolism, increases fat burn, and boosts calories burning.

Oolong Tea for Weight Loss

Oolong tea is another tea that has weight loss properties. Similar to green tea, Oolong tea decreases body fat and blocks the formation of new fat cells. It also can boost the metabolism.  Oolong tea is loaded with antioxidants. These antioxidants help burn body fat quicker, especially targeting the arms and belly. Like green tea, it is a natural source of caffeine and EGCG, contributing to fat burning.  If you drink Oolong tea, you can potentially boost your metabolism by 10% for up to two hours after drinking.   If you drink oolong tea three times a day, it can block the absorption of fat by up to 50%.

Another feature of drinking oolong tea is that it can make you less likely to have sugar and sweet cravings. This is accomplished by regulating blood sugar. When your blood sugar levels spike or crash we develop cravings for high calorie foods. By stabilizing blood sugar levels it can stop these fluctuations and stop you from binging on junk food.

Mint Tea for Weight Loss

Did you know that certain smells can trigger craving and some can help you stay on track with healthy eating habits.  One study completed by the Journal of Neurological and Orthopaedic Medicine concluded that those who had sniffed peppermint every two hours lost an average of 5 pounds a month. This amazing tea has been shown to help control your appetite and suppress cravings.  If you find yourself craving sweet, brew a cup of Peppermint Tea to ward off those dangerous cravings.

Rosehip Tea for Weight Loss

Rosehip is a particular tea that is especially great at naturally reducing belly fat. Research shows that rosehip extract inhibits weight gain and decreases visceral fat in animal studies. This is possible because rosehip contains traces of tiliroside which increases the speed and efficiency of fat burning.  Rosehip tea inhibits fat accumulation in tissue and stimulates fat burning at the same time. Among

These are not the only teas that have weight loss properties, but among tea, these are the one's that have the strongest weight loss characteristics. Tea really can help you with your weight loss efforts, especially if you combine drinking tea with a health diet and exercise.
