Is Diet Soda Bad for Your Health?

Many of you choose to drink diet soda as opposed to the full-calorie and full-sugar regular fizzy drinks. But is this really helping you get healthy and lose weight? What you think is a "healthy" choice could actually be leading to weight gain according to a new research study.

Diet soda is packed full of artificial sweeteners, and these can hurt your metabolism by boosting fat and triggering inflammation. ‚ÄčHere is a list of harmful effects of drinking diet soda:

Early Puberty‚Äč

1. Diet soda was shown to cause early puberty according to a Harvard medical study. They found that those girls that drank 1.5 cans of diet soda a day had their first periods earlier than those that did not. ‚Äč

Type II Diabetes

5. This is a disease that is often associated with high sugar consumption. But what does it have to do with diet soda, isn't it sugar free? Sorry but there is a relationship. Weight Gain!

The last bit I want to touch on is the link between diet soda and weight gain. One study found that consumption of diet soda was associated with double the risk of becoming overweight or obese. There has also been evidence to show that artificial sweeteners can cause an increase in appetite and an increase in sugar cravings.
