Why am I so Tired When Exercising?

It's understandable that if you are working out harder than normal or for a longer period of time that you will start feeling tired and worn out during your workout. But do you ever find yourself going about your regular routine and you just feel way more tired than normal? Happens to me too and there could be a number of reasons for feeling sluggish. Here are the top reasons why you might be feeling tired during your workout and what you can do to fix the problem.

You're Dehydrated

This could very well be the reason you're tired, especially if you find yourself working out outside during the summer. More sweat means more water is needed to keep you hydrated. Even slight dehydration can cause a significant drop in energy levels. You should be making it a habit of drinking water throughout your day. If you know you are going to be exercising outside then make an effort to drink two cups of water 2 hours before your workout.Keep in mind that when you sweat you are losing more than just water, you are losing electrolytes as well. Sports drinks can help replenish electrolytes but they often come with the price of high sugar and unnecessary calories. My favorite solution to this problem is to mix in a packet of Powerade Ion Boost. It contains supplemental Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, and Magnesium to help replace electrolytes during intense workouts.

Not Enough Sleep

I can't even begin to stress how important it is to get quality sleep every night. Your body needs sleep to rest, recover, and repair its self. This is essentially when your body balances out your hormones and if you don't get quality sleep you are disrupting this process. This can severely lower your energy levels. Working out puts stress on your body and this stress is cumulative. So if you don't get enough sleep this will quickly stack up against you and cause you to feel more and more tired.

Lack of Carbs

What you eat will determine what kind of energy you will have during your workout. Carbs are essential because they are your body's main source of energy. Carbs are especially important for cardio workouts and endurance workouts. If you find yourself with not enough energy to power through your workout than you might need to give your body a carb boost. The best way to do this is my taking a workout energy supplement like GU Energy gel. GU Energy Gel is only 100 calories and will give you a power you need to make it through your workout, they are by far the best tasting sports energy supplement that I've ever had and you can read more about how they work by reading my GU Energy Gel Review.

You're Missing Key Vitamins and Minerals

It can be difficult to eat exactly the right foods to give your body exactly the right amount and mix of vitamins and minerals it needs. You could be lacking key vitamins and this could be causing you tired and sluggish behavior. This past winter I woke up every morning and I just felt like no matter what I did I was always so tired. After a visit to the doctor's office, we discovered that

my vitamin D levels were way too low and I was put on a vitamin D regimen. This took a few weeks to build up to a healthy level but the difference was astronomical! This made me wonder about what other vitamins I could be missing. You should always consult your doctor before starting any vitamin supplements but you can take a free quiz at careof.com and find out what vitamins you need based on your habits, body, and lifestyle! You can get vitamins at your local supplement store or save money and have them delivered to you by careof.com.
